Submission Guidelines

Washington County Historical Society Annual Writing Competition

Judging of manuscripts is based on contributions to the expansion of the county’s history; originality of the subject; and use of primary and secondary sources. Articles must be original material, and not previously published.

Submissions must be typed, and preferably include endnotes. Length – not including endnotes – can range from 3,000 words to 6,000 words. The title should be headed: “WCHS Prize,” followed by the manuscript full title, and the author’s name, mailing address, telephone number, and email.

Entries should be in a Word document and can be submitted by email to [email protected], using the subject line: WCHS Writing Submission.

Entries become the property of the Washington County Historical Society and will not be returned. All submissions will be considered for publication in Flashback. WCHS reserves the right to award no prizes.

Submission deadline: June 30
